Last month Amy Davies Pereira of Little House in London gave us her top tips on refreshing our homes for summer for under £30 which proved very popular. So Amy is back on the blog to tell you just how you can bring the outside in for a bargain price too. The homeware pieces she has chosen are perfect if you have guests coming to stay over the summer and want to impress them, or maybe you just fancy giving your home a little face-lift.
“It’s a great idea to refresh your interior decor now and again, and there is no better time to get started than when the summer season arrives. The warmer weather, sunshine, garden and simply just being out about in nature can give you some fabulous inspiration of where to start.
Flights Of Fancy
I’ve focussed on two key looks, firstly, ‘Flights Of Fancy’, a fast growing trend encompassing all things in flight. I’ve featured bees, swans, flamingos, exotic and garden birds. This pretty look is sure to add an instant summer vibe to your home.
Why not try upgrading your bedding to add a summery vibe to the bedroom, the swan design in this duvet set pictured below from Very is bold, but the cool grey background is neutral enough to fit in with most colour schemes. Flamingo inspired accessories can add a tropical vibe to your home, inject some pink to your table with this striking drinkware range from M&S. Try adding some fun fairy lights over a headboard or mirror for an instant lighting hack.
Brighten up your crockery collection with this beautiful mug by Sara Miller for Portmeirion. The exquisite bird motifs on this fine china are inspired by vintage prints from Asia. The bird measuring cups would be a fun addition to any shelf, hand painted in bird patterns that evoke a cosy farmhouse feel, they’re ideal for everyday use or maybe an afternoon tea party.
Soft furnishings can be a quick and inexpensive way to add in a new theme or colour scheme, a few new cushions is a great place to start. The bees on this grey cushion, and the bird on the table runner are all embroidered, giving them both a tactile yet country-style appeal.
A piece of art can transform a tired looking wall in seconds. Always prop the art up against the wall you’re planning to feature it on, before you commit to hanging. Live with it for a few days to see if you’ve selected the correct area for your new piece.

Next, I’ve put together a selection of ‘Modern Rustic’ finds. This trend is a beautiful marriage of opposites. Bringing differences together in everything from patterns in nature, to urban and rural design. It emcompasses both natural and manmade finishes, focussing on, wood, slate, cement, enamel, glass and cotton.
Wood is a beautiful addition to any home, add in some stunning kitchen pieces such as this large pizza board that can also be used as a centrepiece at the table for condiments, bread and starters. Dot a few of these White Company hanging glass tealight holders around the table too. Crockery is a great way to freshen up any kitchen or dining table. The Halo range by Denby is hand-decorated, no two pieces will be exactly the same, giving a beautiful rustic ambience.
Moroccan tiles have played a large part in inspiring some amazing textiles of late. This cost effective monochrome rug, in an eye-catching trellis design, could be the starting point to change the theme to any room in a instant. The Christy Maroc towel is a 100% Cotton hammam, use it in the bathroom or throw over a chair for a truly modern feel.
Cement, marble and slate create striking patterns and finishes to any decor piece. This marble effect cushion is simple yet so effective, the cement plant pot filled with faux grass will give an earthy urban feel to your home. Bring in some vintage enamel pieces, or try this jug from Marks & Spencer, fill it up with white striking summer blooms.
