December Beauty Must-Haves | by Jen Thorne

Over the festive period we all fuss over what to wear for the multitude of events that we are invited to, but we often forget to pamper ourselves with beauty products.

Jen Thorne of Beauty Junkie London is on the blog to tell us about the best December beauty products out there to help you look your best at this wonderful (though not always skin-friendly) time of year.

December beauty: must-haves: Jen Thorne’s top buys

“It’s that festive time of year where Christmas parties are in full swing and it’s the perfect excuse to treat yourself to some sparkly and shimmery new makeup treats. Or of course be a generous soul and pick up some lovely gifts for the beauty obsessed people in your life.

Starting with a perfume suggestion, December’s beauty must have is Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb this isn’t a brand new launch but it is one of those perfumes that makes an ideal gift. It’s a heady floral scent (as the name does give a clue to…) so if you have someone who likes flowery types of perfume then this is ideal. The bottle is very much dressing table worthy too, so you get extra points for prettiness.

For me, I love this as an evening-out type of fragrance as it’s so different to what I normally opt for and makes a bit more of a statement.

My next must-have has to be the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Eye Palette. I would put money on any beauty addict being absolutely over the moon to discover this gem in their stocking on Christmas morning. This palette is the perfect ‘if in doubt’ gift as it contains essentially four different looks in one from the safest of neutrals to the perfect night-out darker shades.

Of course there are no rules to December beauty so you can mix and match the shades to get your own custom look but it also gives you a good guide. It is definitely a contender for the perfect ‘one size fits all’ type of palette and makes for a perfect no-fail gift. Or of course a beautiful treat for yourself that sorts out your beauty look for work, weekend and wild night out…

When it comes to gift-set options there’s no law against you treating yourself to one! Marc Jacobs Beauty has a huge selection of gorgeous gifts this year and this lip colour ‘Snake Charmer’ set is my pick of the bunch. Featuring five 1.7ml size versions of the Hi-Shine Gloss shades including two nudes, two bold shades and a shimmer.

The stand-out shade for me is actually the bold purple which is called ‘Boys Don’t Cry’, which I’m sure won’t be for everyone but I do love a bold lip and it’s what drew me to this set in the first place. Marc Jacobs Beauty has gorgeous packaging and formulas so they feel just as lovely to use as they look!

The other thing beauty-wise that I didn’t want to forget on the must-have list is a couple of skincare gems. The combination of cold weather, warm central heating and maybe a few too many festive prosecco nights-out can take their toll on your skin. So two treats to fake that ‘I definitely had at least eight hours sleep last night’ look that are the Bobbi Brown Illuminating Moisture Balm which is available as a special 200ml large size as part of the Christmas collection.

Then top off with a pamper with Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Mask (available in a pack of 4x). The combination will have your skin glowing like a festive bauble! I absolutely swear by the eye masks – they work a treat for morning-after eyes or even if you’ve just spent a little too long staring at screens getting all that ‘end of year’ work done. They’re a wonder product

Of course ALL products featured are available for delivery via Collectplus retailers – which is perfect as means minimal fighting of festive crowds on the busiest shopping days of the year. You can just order and collect when it’s convenient for you. Which is perfection at a time of year when the last thing you want is extra trips to the shops than necessary.

Conveniences so you can make the most of party time or of course at-home hibernation time. Both being perfect ways to spend the season – pampering or partying.”
