Ultimate beauty blogger Jen Thorne of Beauty Junkie London is back on the blog to share her pick of the best beauty items for this month. The start of the year is great for trying new things and being experimental so read on for Jen’s must-have picks for the start of the year.
“January for most is all about fresh starts, new beginnings and promising to go to the gym AT LEAST five times a week. Ok, maybe three… make that two. Ok I’ll go once and get cake afterward. Whatever January and resolutions mean to you it is a great excuse to take a look at your current beauty routine and switch out a few products that either *might* have been hanging around a little longer than they should. Or to just swap some items for something new to feel like you’re giving yourself a bit of a makeover. Perhaps you just want to find some new treats to keep in your gym bag.
Starting off on the glam side of January – if improving your makeup skills for 2018 was on your resolutions list then this new kit is definitely one worth picking up. From the brand HAX it’s a Glitter Cut Crease kit that gives you all the product you need plus a step-by-step tutorial to re-create a loo. HAX is available on ASOS and includes a selection of different kits including a two-toned rose gold lip, a neutral cut-crease (if glitter isn’t your thing) or a holographic lip look.
HAX Beauty Kits are available from ASOS (from £14.99)
New Year is also the perfect excuse for a new perfume. This year I want to opt for wearing fragrance brands that perhaps aren’t as ‘mass market’ as some of my usual favourites. Elizabeth and James is a brand (the Olsen Twins are behind it) that manages to capture the whole ‘effortlessly cool’ vibe. Something I’d love to achieve myself this year.
A spritz of a lovely fragrance is a good place to start – The Elizabeth and James Nirvana White is a female fragrance that brings together peony, muguet and musk into an oriental sort of fragrance that manages to still be quite fresh and cool at the same time thanks to the musk taking an edge of the peony floral notes.
If you just want to fake a healthy glow after all the festive indulgence then a new launch from Charlotte Tilbury is one you need in your life. The new Youth Glow Brightening Primer takes everything from the amazing Wonderglow (if you haven’t tried it yet… you need to) but gives it a brightening twist.
This can be worn alone for a natural touch of brightening glow or under makeup to help lift and brighten whatever you choose to wear on top. This one is great if you want a bit of radiance and anti-aging and is a new ‘no-makeup-makeup’ favourite of mine.
If the cold weather of January is taking its toll on your skin then the next beauty must-have will be right up your street. This clever little compact from the Bobbi Brown Extra Glow collection has replaced the usual selection of makeup products with a few on-the-go skincare essentials.
Including a skin oil and two balm products. Perfect for dry patches or adding a bit of extra glow to dehydrated skin whilst out and about. I love that they have gone down the skincare route for this palette rather than just make-up. All in a fresh white compact to pop in your bag and take with you wherever you go.
Last but by no means least, if you are hitting the gym in 2018 then no doubt having a dry shampoo in your bag might become an essential. So why not treat yourself to a stylish one? Dry shampoo is a bit of a marmite beauty product for many – some love it, some hate it. I think it’s all about finding one that works for you and this OUAI Dry Shampoo is definitely one of the best I’ve found.
In a sleek silver can, it’s a very fine powdery mist that manages to absorb extra oil (and sweat… nice) and leave hair feeling refreshed but not clogged up and weighed down. It comes in a travel sized or even a foam formula version. The foam one would be perfect for a post-gym refresh actually as you can apply and give it a blast/quick restyle with a hairdryer to make it feel a little more like you have actually washed it.
All of the January Beauty Must Haves are available from CollectPlus retailers so can be ordered and delivered to your nearest collection point without you needing to interrupt your gym schedule (or hibernation plans) to hit the high street.”
