It’s almost that time of year where party season kicks in and we just have to look our best. The colder weather has arrived and we are all craving some TLC. This month we caught up with Jen Thorne of Beauty Junkie London to discuss all things beauty and find out her beauty must-haves so you can always look on point no matter where you are going.
A new season is always the perfect time to give your beauty routine a refresh – out with the old and in with the new is the ideal excuse to get shopping and pick up a few lovely beauty and pampering treats to see you into the months ahead. Plus the wonders of a new lipstick shade in terms of an affordable way to transform your whole look can never be praised enough! With Autumn in full swing and Winter just around the corner I’ve picked out a few of my beauty must-haves for the Autumn and Winter seasons ALL of which can be ordered via the handy Collect Plus Click and Collect service – so they can be winging their way to you to collect at a convenient time & place.
Starting with skin – for skin there are two ways to get glowing, even in the dullest months of the year. One is by switching up your skincare so you get an extra dose of hydration to keep skin plump and looking good. The other is by adding a glow with a little help of make-up. A long-term favourite of mine for the colder months is Clarins famous Double Serum as it’s rich but without feeling too heavy.
When a new season kicks in my go-to way to refresh my look and change things up is to go for a new lipstick shade. So I included two options here for perfectly Autumn/Winter appropriate lip colours – one bold and one more neutral. First up is the new Crushed Lip Colour from Bobbi Brown in the shade Ruby – a classic deep berry to add some drama and an instant wintery beauty feel. Then for a more neutral lip option I chose the shade ‘Best Actress’ from the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Lips launch. A long lasting matte lip option that is a good neutral tone that would work a treat with glowy skin and a classic cat-eye liner flick.
Of course, 2017 has been ALL about that highlight, but not everyone wants their cheekbones to be seen from space. Another way to use a liquid highlighter to give a glow that looks healthy rather than super-reflective is either use as a base with your primer or mix a drop in with your foundation. I absolutely love the new Liquid Chrome Highlighter drops from Barry M with my favourite being the shade ‘At First Light’ because it’s a glowy, flattering champagne gold that’s gorgeous but not glitter. For a day to day glow a drop mixed with primer as your pre-foundation base, or a drop in your foundation adds just that touch of extra glow. Or of course you can go with the traditional direct-to-cheekbones application highlight for a ‘pop’ of shine.
When it comes to Autumn and Winter I find that alongside a few beauty switch-ups it’s good to have a few products that just make you feel good. For me fragrance is one of those never-fail feel-good factors. Adding in an Autumnal perfume and a cosy candle to scent a night wrapped up warm at home make all the difference on feeling good on those shorter days. For home fragrance one of my all time favourites that I stock up on year after year is the Winter candle from The White Company. They have one for every season and they just manage to capture something special in each one, Autumn is a zingy apple scent which is lovely but I do find the cosy spice of the Winter one hard to beat. For perfume Jo Malone have done it again and managed to perfectly capture something special about the season in their new English Oak collection – my favourite of the two new scents is the English Oak and Redcurrant as it manages to combine a woody cosiness with something sweet but fresh. If you like other Jo Malone fragrances such as Blackberry and Bay or Wood Sage and Sea Salt then I’d be confident that this one will go down a storm with you.
Finally is a fun take on a practical handbag beauty essential. When the weather gets a little less than pleasant, having a little hairbrush stashed away in your bag becomes pretty much essential and this one from Tangle Teezer is perfect. Small enough that it doesn’t take up unnecessary space, comes with a cover so you don’t end up with hair everywhere AND it’s sparkly. What’s not to like about that?!
So there we have a round up of my favourite Autumn-Winter beauty must-haves. All available to order from CollectPlus partnership retailers so you can get them delivered easily without having the hassle of waiting in or missing deliveries!
