Beauty and lifestyle blogger Angela of BeautyBytheBunny joins us on the blog this month to talk breaking out of your winter beauty rut and welcoming glowy, spring beauty products ready for the start of a new season.
“Forget Winter, Spring is coming, at long last! After what feels like the longest Winter on record, it’s good to see the lighter evenings. Most people feel renewed at the start of the year, but for me, it has to be springtime – there’s something about seeing the leaves coming back on the trees and the flowers starting to grow that fills me with so much optimism. The house gets a little bit of a revamp and so does my beauty routine.
Now I know that most articles and blog posts that you see about Spring makeup focus heavily on pink tones, but not this one. I love pink as much as the next girl, but this year I want to be a little bit different – I’ve never been one to play by the rules. I want warm tones, a glow and soft skin – sort of like a little prelude to how my Summer makeup will look.
Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow available at John Lewis (£38.50)
We all want our complexion to look healthy and bright, especially after months of the cold weather wreaking havoc on our skin. We want our wrinkles and lines to look blurred and for our skin to feel hydrated. Wonderglow from Charlotte Tilbury will become your best friend.
This Instant Soft Focus Beauty Flash does all of the above and gives you a beautiful glow and adds natural luminosity to your complexion. You can use it as a primer, on its own or even on top of your makeup when you want a bit more radiance.
I can guarantee you’ll be using this long after Spring has ended.
Tom Ford Bronzing Powder available at House of Fraser (£52.00)
Typically, you’d think of flushed pretty pink cheeks at this time of year, but as I said, I like to break the rules. I want bronzed goodness that adds a natural radiance, and for me, that has to be the Bronzing Powders from Tom Ford. They are silky and lightweight, add a gorgeous warmth to the skin and add that much longed for radiance. Plus who doesn’t love a bit of old Tom?
If you still want your blush, no a problem, you can wear the two together, but I plan on rocking some bronzed cheeks for the foreseeable future.
Urban Decay Ultimate Naked Basics available at House of Fraser (£39.50)
For the eyes, it’s all about Urban Decay, but probably not with the palette you’d expect. Usually, I’d be digging out the Naked 3 with its pretty pinks and rose golds. Usually. However, those bronzed cheeks need something warm to compliment them. Urban Decay Ultimate Naked Basics is the palette of my dreams … well, almost. Ok, so it doesn’t have any shimmery shades (sad times), but it does have the most gorgeous selection of mattes. Whilst there are some cool tones, there are also the warm tones I’m craving at the moment.
It really is a beautiful array of neutral shades that you can have a lot of fun with.
This is a really versatile palette and it even has a pinky-taupe for those of you who just can’t totally forgo the pink this Spring.
MAC Prep & Prime Fix + available from House of Fraser (£18.00)
You’re going to want to set your makeup in place and you cannot go wrong with MAC Fix +. I swear by this and get through a ridiculous number of bottles. As well as setting your makeup in place, you can also use it before makeup application to provide an even base, or throughout the day whenever you want to refresh your makeup or get a quick hydration boost. It is rich in minerals and contains green tea, chamomile and cucumber so it’s beautifully soothing on the skin.
As the weather warms up, I like to keep a bottle of this in my bag when I go out to refresh throughout the day.
Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede available from John Lewis (£90.00)
One of the things I love about this time of year is changing up my perfumes. In Winter it’s all about the heavier, richer scents, but now it is time to bring out something lighter and fresher. Jo Malone can do no wrong when it comes to fragrance and Peony and Blush Suede is perfect for Spring. With notes of apple, jasmine, rose, gillyflower blended alongside the gorgeous notes of peony and suede, you need this in your life. It is flirtatious, seductive and a touch of luxury.
Perfume is one of those items where you can really have a little splurge and treat yourself, and if you’re new to the joys of Jo Malone then this is a great place to start.
Laura Mercier Almond Coconut Milk Souffle available from John Lewis (£45.00)
Finally, we need to talk about a bit of body care. We’ve all spent the last few months snuggled up in big cosy knits and our skin hasn’t seen the light of day. Spring brings some nice warm days when you might even get away with short sleeves or possibly a skirt (runs to find the long abandoned razor), so you want your skin to look and feel nice. The Laura Mercier Body Souffles are amongst my favourite body creams, and the Almond Coconut scent is gorgeous. Your skin will feel nourished and hydrated without a hint of greasiness and you’ll smell amazing.
You’ve still got time before Summer to get your skin in tip-top condition, and this is a great place to start.
