Look 1: Blazer, t-shirt and trainers

When you put together your basics and staple wardrobe pieces you can create a really chic and effortless look. Pairing a denim skirt with a blazer, t-shirt and pair of trainers is a great way of embracing the ‘layering’ trend which is also really practical, especially with the unpredictable British weather!

A blazer is something that is really worth investing in as it can be worn in so many different ways with a range of different things. A pop of colour is always interesting but if you’re looking for something more versatile then the grey double breasted option from River Island (£65) may be more up your street.

Everyone needs a good quality white t-shirt in their wardrobe, whether it be plain, v-neck or a slogan tee. We really like this Tommy Jeans one (£35) because it is on-trend but is still a really timeless style.

Recently there seems to be so many different styles and colours of denim skirts which is amazing as we are given so much choice, which means you can be really versatile when styling your denim skirt. If you’re looking for a bit of colour to inject some fun into your outfit, something like this pink denim mom skirt (£19.99) would work really well, paired with more neutral tones.

You can’t go wrong with a vintage wash and the frayed hem on this skirt gives it a really cool ’90s feel. What’s even better about this skirt is that you can get free next day Click & Collect with Very.

What would we do without the humble white trainer? They go with literally everything and give off a cool ‘off-duty’ vibe. Styling the denim skirt with these trainers and the blazer makes for a casual but stylish outfit that can be worn again and again.

Look 2: Sweatshirt, jacket, tights and boots

As you saw in the Instagram image of Sinead Crowe at the beginning of this post, knitwear and sweatshirts look amazing with a denim skirt in the colder months. Right now you never know what the weather is going to be like, sometimes we get all four seasons in one day!

Sweatshirts have become a huge trend recently, especially with french slogans, which are obviously trés chic. We love this Whistles one from John Lewis (£79) especially because it’s pink. You can layer this up if need be and it can also be worn with faux leather leggings for a more dressy option.

If there’s one thing you’re going to invest in for your capsule wardrobe, we couldn’t recommend a quality leather jacket enough. You will wear it to death and the best thing about them is the leather gets softer and looks better as time goes on – win, win! Throw this black biker jacket (£140) over the pink sweatshirt with your denim jacket and you’re good to go.

If you purchase a decent pair of black boots they can last you a good few years. Choose a timeless pair and they’ll carry you from season to season with a good polish. We love this pair from Office (£100) and think the heel height is perfect to wear with thick tights and a denim skirt. If you’re looking for some tights that are a little more exciting this dotty pair from ASOS (£5) are really cool.

Anything Holly Willoughby wears always looks incredible and you simply can’t go wrong with a classic denim skirt like this with the button down detail. The dark indigo colour is perfect for wearing with tights but can also be worn on it’s own with a t-shirt just like Holly’s shown it to be styled.

Look 3: Blouse and sandals

And finally, our last way to style a denim skirt is with a blouse and sandals. We thought this would be perfect for a smart/casual office look or even for brunching. There are loads of gorgeous shirts and blouses at I Saw It First who now offer Click & Collect to your nearest CollectPlus Point as a delivery option which is so convenient.

We love this blue spot blouse (£16) and think it is an absolute bargain. Roll the sleeves up for a more casual look and some layered gold necklaces would look super on-trend.

Midi denim skirts are proving to be a great way to tap into this trend without feeling This one from ASOStoo casual. The midi length is stylish but also professional which means it is totally appropriate for work if you have more of a relaxed attire to the very corporate suit and tie option. (£45) has a slit which will look really nice with heels for a night out.

A wedge espadrille is a shoe that will take you from the spring right into summer and you’ll find yourself wearing them with virtually everything.
