ASDA accelerate multi-channel business

Asda is accelerating development of its multi-channel business with investment in click and collect for food and general merchandise and same day delivery on grocery home shopping. Announcing a 4.5% uplift in total sales, including petrol, to £22.8bn for 2012 – up from £21.8bn in 2011, Asda said it is investing over £700m of capital in 2013 into online, new and existing stores and its supply chain to support the move. Online sales break £1bn barrier at John Lewis

John Lewis has revealed that annual online sales have reached £1bn for the first time, a year ahead of the department store retailer’s own forecast.  The retailer had originally expected to hit the £1bn milestone in online sales in 2014, but it has achieved its goal over the past 52 weeks.  Annual results in March revealed web sales soared 41% to £959m as total sales rose 13% to £3.7bn. Retailers likely to be winners in m-payments

Experts have suggested that retailers could be set to capitalise on the strong growth in mobile payments, as more consumers order parcels and other items via mobile. According to Internet Retailing, the topic was discussed at length at the International Payment Summit in London last week.
