Consumers are using tablets to search for goods online more than twice as often as they were a year ago, with their popularity driving a jump in internet shopping queries on search engines.
Retail web searches on tablets in the second quarter of the year were up 132pc against the same period last year, according to the Online Retail Monitor, which is compiled by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and Google. This, combined with a 66pc increase in searches on smartphones, sent the total number of internet shopping searches – which also includes those made on a PC – up 15pc.
DIY and gardening saw the biggest spike, up 32pc in total and 170pc on tablets, thanks to the effects of three bank holidays and warmer weather. Read full article
