Online sales break £1bn barrier at John Lewis

John Lewis has revealed that annual online sales have reached £1bn for the first time, a year ahead of the department store retailer’s own forecast.  The retailer had originally expected to hit the £1bn milestone in online sales in 2014, but it has achieved its goal over the past 52 weeks.  Annual results in March revealed web sales soared 41% to £959m as total sales rose 13% to £3.7bn.

John Lewis also intends to launch a new mobile app later this year, in an effort to capitalise on the ongoing growth of mobile commerce. Mobile now accounts for a quarter of hits on the John Lewis website, following a recent redesign.
